Professional Experience
I've been around the financial services profession since I was a kid. Thankfully, I was introduced to the RIA world early and from the ground up:
- Operations - who remembers daily downloads?
- Compliance - SEC and state audits are annoying but the Boy Scout motto "Be Prepared" helps!
- Investment selection - Morningstar search anyone?
- Firm management - people gonna people, am I right?
- Firm ownership - being in control of your own destiny is a blessing and a curse.
I earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification in 2010 and fell in love with planning. I immersed myself in holistic, deep dive financial planning and have been doing it ever since.
Along the way, I've been involved in helping to grow the profession through NAPFA and FPA - wonderful membership organizations for financial professionals.
Why the Zoo?
Personally, I LOVE opening brains to new ways of thinking and new ideas. At the same time, I struggled as a firm owner to commit to new planners. I want to teach them, but it can be expensive in time and salary. What if new planners could be valuable from day one?
I've seen how financial planning students and new planners can get stuck in the large financial firm system, and not be able see the wider planning world around them. What if we can introduce these "baby planners" to the breadth of business models, the types of service models, cool available software, different ways to make money, and the buckets of planning opportunities?
My personal goal is for the Zoo Crew to learn what financial planning really is "in the wild" and to make informed choices for their career and their life.
Personal Info
I am very lucky to be married to my summer-after-high-school boyfriend, and we've raised two independent-thinker sons. All my men are Eagle Scouts and we gladly devoted a ton of time, talent, and treasure to the Scouting movement.
We recently moved from our hometown of Jacksonville, Florida to the craziness that is Orlando. We are closer to our kids and fifteen minutes away from Typhoon Lagoon (IFKYK).
Hubby is rebuilding a first generation Cooper Mini and perfecting his crockpot recipes. Oldest son is creating car parts and more with a 3D printer. Youngest son is handling our graphic design and video needs. And me? I'm visiting the Zoo!
